RP MEME: MEDIEVAL TIMES

Pick a scenario, post with your character and roll for the scene. Or just pick. That's cool too.

For the setting:

1) CASTLE. Throne rooms, private chambers, long hallways.
2) TAVERN. Rough-hewn tables, rough-hewn clientele.
3) DUNGEONS. Iron bars, rusty chains, and terrible food.
4) JOUST. The knights of the realm are battling.
5) FIELDS. It's a hard, long day working to grow food.
6) MARKET. There's a well, there are some craftsmen selling things. It's a medieval mall.

And once you've decided the setting, decide your role:

1) ROYALTY. You are a King, Queen, Prince, Princess or close relative.
2) KNIGHT. You are a warrior of the realm.
3) WITCH/WIZARD. Official court magician? Crazy old lady with a lot of herbs? You decide.
4) PEASANT. Yeah, your life sucks.
5) CRAFTSMAN. Blacksmith, woodworker. Apprentice or master is up to you.
6) SERVANT. Your life is utterly devoted to the one you serve.
BONUS: 7) TIME TRAVELER. ???

6!

[And over the top of the wall, a servant bustles along, quietly through the dark.

His steps slow, abruptly. He pauses.

And his hand lifts slowly to his temple. He senses something wrong...]

[Things seem to be in order. The cannons, under her watch, have been well-maintained and improved over their earlier designs—while the local lord had not quite known what to make of the dark-haired, stony-faced girl from the east, her results had been inarguable.

And yet...

It's quiet tonight. A light breeze; she can hear the earliest of the birds twittering and the light footfalls of a servant or two going about their business. And—

What was that—

There's a flash and a bang and Homura is knocked back by the blast of half their crates of gunpowder on this wall going up in flames—just in time to have an arrow whiz right through where her nose would have been.

Oh, now it's on.]

[A telepathic shove knocks the arrow out of its way, and it barely misses a guard on the battlements. A female guard -- Homura, of course, he's seen her around before, and oh god, another volley of arrows and Charles ducks under a wall.

Damn.

He's trapped.]

[Even as the volley of arrows embeds itself in the wall behind her, Homura is in action, Soul Gem in hand, and a moment later emerges from a flash of purple light having abandoned her Western guard's togs in favor of her Puella Magi gear.

With one fluid motion, she draws her matchlock rifle and searches for a target; the explosion has wreaked havoc on her night vision, but—there. She fires, and the saboteur is down.

There's a yelp from above; probably the servant she heard passing by earlier. At least someone else is awake at this hour.]

You! Can you get to the bell? Someone's got to sound an alarm!

[She ducks behind the ramparts and allows herself a couple second of closing her eyes—hopefully enough to restore her night vision.]

Hang on. [Charles is frozen, in fear or premonition; he raises his hand to his temple, and fiercely commands anyone still awake (servant boy; there's a servant boy unable to sleep on his plank in the kitchen) to RAISE THE ALARM, sound the bells.

It happens gratifyingly quickly.]

[Ow ow ow oh kami it's Charles. Great.

Homura's a little bit more psychically receptive than most, being what she is, and Charles, though just a servant, makes an impression that one doesn't easily forget. And yes, all right, very helpful, and that is impressively fast getting the alarm up, but really, he could have been a bit more selective in that broadcast, couldn't he?

She allows herself a quick peek over the wall; it doesn't look like a whole army, which makes sense. They couldn't have gotten a whole army here so quietly. They must have sent a small group through the woods, to see what they could do by stealth and trickery.

It'll take a while for people to rouse and mobilize, though, so for the moment, it's up to her.

...And Charles, she supposes.

She lays low against the inner walls and positions her rifle over the top, taking careful aim.]

[It's actually a topic of some curiosity. Charles' power, that is. Because he is powerful. A magic beyond what most people have or know. And yet, he stays. He has never tried to seize political power. There are some nasty rumors about the King and a kidnapped girl, but... no one really listens to those.

Do they?

Sorry, he sends, to her, and then his mental touch grows cold. He's realized, abruptly, what this army wants.

And it isn't him dead.]

[Homura would protest more, but now isn't the time and it works better than shouting, at least.

She slips out of the timestream momentarily, firing the rest of her shots; she can't afford to be out in the open and exposed for long, since the burning of the match on the firing mechanism will give away her position in this kind of dark. Time resumes, and she can see two of the men fall; one reels as her shot hits him in the side. He won't last long.

The next errant thought that slips from Charles's mind, though, makes her blood run cold.

They're here for you

It's only a moment's distraction, but that's enough; as she turns toward the top of the wall, an arrow catches her in the shoulder.]
