Post the first line from your 25 most recent fanfics and try to find a pattern.
This is the story of how former Special Agent Aaron Hotchner became a serial killer.
It’s three in the morning in the Oval Office when Nathan Petrelli hears the knock.
Felix is awake a few minutes before his alarm goes off.
The call came in at twenty minutes past the hour – your basic 211, all it sounded like.
Mahone wakes up with one hell of a fucking headache.
In comparison to the rest of the tests, the tank is almost a vacation.
“Any weird alien physiology I should know about?”
“What’s that?” asks Michael, in the doorway of Alex’s cell, nodding at the picture between Alex’s fingers.
Tony Stark spots him pretty much by accident.
They don’t know if he’ll ever turn into that – that thing ever again.
“Sometimes I hate being right,” says a voice, from the deck of the Christina Rose.
Kellerman wakes up with his arms and legs tied – rather neatly – to an extremely fancy hotel bed.
It’s Tony Stark’s turn to host it.
“Well,” says Tony Stark, in an undertone, “we could stay here and keep talking about how much money I get for government research next year – which, by the way, will go about four times further than any money you give to anyone else – or, you know, we could head back to my place and get this conversation going in a little…less formal of a setting.”
Sara wakes up to a light, distant crackling noise.
Once, Paul Kellerman fucked Alex Mahone.
Agent Wheeler is home from work three, maybe four seconds – he’s just closed the door, turned to head back into the apartment – when Mahone shoves the gun in his face.
Michael finds Alex alone, on a boat so much an echo of the Christina Rose that, for a moment, Michael wonders if Alex liberated her from Panamanian custody.
Bruce’s teeth are clenched, eyes shut, and Tony sees his fingers curl, nails leaving imprints on the restraints, soft leather fixing Bruce to the headboard of Tony’s bed.
Tony Stark meets Bruce Banner for the first time at SHIELD.
The doorbell rings as Mahone is on his way to work.
Mahone awakens with Michael Scofield’s breath on the back of his neck, and Paul Kellerman’s hand stroking possessively over his waist.
Mahone palms the glass – empty, except for the ice, and the few bitter drops of gin and tonic.
Mirrored lenses in the rearview mirror.
It’s not long before his uniform is soaked through.
Well, more than half of them start with names, but I think the most obvious patterns are a) all of them are present tense, and b) the vast majority start in medias res. Most of these sentences sound like they're from the middle of a story, not the beginning. And, also? Fully a fifth of them start with someone waking up. 0.o?
