Um. This only sounds like a minor version of the best thing ever.
The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write in, and give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, Ancient Rome, etc).
I will then explain what story from your chosen fandom I would write for your chosen type of AU.

Prominent 19th century archaeologists Brutus and Cicero ("It's esteemed, if you please"), under a wealthy nobleman named Caesar's patronage, undertake a harrowing journey across the ocean into the wilds of South America in order to retrieve a rumored 'perfect treasure' from a Mayan temple.
They hire "Mark Antony", a guide familiar with the terrain and trusted by Caesar, who turns out to be quite the ruffian, more of a corsair than the civilized Brutus and Cicero are led to expect. Antony's presence confuses an already repressed and hidden love affair between Brutus and Cicero, and as the three of them get closer to the Mayan treasure, they get rather uncomfortably close to one another (as well as various uncontrolled wildlife, vegetation, unhelpful natives and colonists, etc, etc).
Fun stuff. XD

Despite Smith's enigmatic warnings, they dock their ship (the Valhalla) to the space station - and immediately find themselves taken into custody by a group with the technology and resources of the old losing government.
By speaking with Markus, the group's leader, Jeremiah manages to put the pieces together and realize that the winning side is putting some plan into action - and has no good intentions for the remnants of the human race. This plan may even involve Jeremiah's father, an important official in the pre-war united government.
Jeremiah insists on leaving to stop the plan. There's only one problem - the remnants of the losing side won't let them leave.
It's only by Smith's intervention that Jeremiah is able to convince Markus of the necessity of letting them go. Markus leaves with them, unable to get support from the rest of the space station, and the four of them - Smith, Jeremiah, Kurdy and Markus - set off to save the human race, by themselves.

Hmm how would you match up Luke, Han, R2D2 and C3PO with Smith, Jeremiah, Kurdy and Markus???
And I ♥ your icon!

Jeremiah = cynical Han Solo
Kurdy = big hairy Chewbacca
Markus = idealistic Luke
Smith = little enigmatic Yoda

However, this only peripherally affects the lives of the students - they're more concerned with Mr. Tigh, the ill-mannered history teacher, who seems less intent on teaching history than handing out detentions to his least favorite students, Kara Thrace (which makes sense, cause she's a troublemaker) and Felix Gaeta - oddly, because Felix is one of the top students in the school. Though there are those rumors about alcoholism, and a certain conscientious student trying to report Mr. Tigh...
Meanwhile, Lee Adama has to overcome the social stigma of being the principal's son, keep his friendship with the out-of-bounds Kara, and keep his academics in order. To make matters worse, the superintendent seems to have taken a special interest in Lee, and the way he sees the high school administration.
As the big game with rival school Cylon High comes up, romance is in the air. Sports star Sam Anders keeps trying to catch Kara Thrace's eye - with varying degrees of success - while Karl Agathon starts dating Sharon, a girl from Cylon, nearly causing his own social circle to disown him. Rising scientific star (and newcomer science teacher) Gaius Baltar, on the other hand, seems increasingly aware of Felix Gaeta's not-so-innocent crush pointed his way, despite of his own affair with another student from Cylon High.
When Baltar uses Felix then dumps him (giving the science award to Lee instead), Felix is devastated, despite the comfort of his best friend Dee. He even contemplates suicide - but, surprisingly, it's none other than Saul Tigh who brings him out of it, with the gruff insistence that 'teachers shouldn't act that way'.
Under the lights of game night, Laura Roslin apologizes to Adama for her attempted overcontrolling of his school, Dee finally admits her feelings for Lee (over Felix's trepidation), Kara decides she'd actually just like to keep leading on Sam and Leoben (a Cylon High student), and, most importantly, Galactica High wins the game. Go team.
